Spring has Sprung

So this blog is about me trying to become a gardener....... and since I am SO very bad at this, I thought I would blog my progress or lack thereof. This is both for my own knowledge so I can look back, hopefully someday, and laugh AND for family and friends of whom are out of town but want to keep up with my growing growing ability ;)

So here goes......

Hey Nelle,

If you really want a successful "green" garden, don't harvest your entire crop. Allow 30% of it to die while it is in the garden. I'll explain it to anyone interested, but it dwells with macro-nutritional cycles.

Hey girl,

I love the fact that you are gardening now. I also recently am getting a compost pile started. Mine is not in a nice bin though. We are fencing with a lock to open it so it can be stirred. What I need to know is, how much "good dirt" do I start on the bottom? If anyone understands what the hell I'm talking about e-mail me!! Maybe with my new compost bin I can get some good pics of bears!!! I hope not! If anyone needs mint I have a ton growing everywhere!

toot,

I think you need to layer..... meaning a layer of green matter (grass clippings, and I think food, etc), a layer of brown matter (leaves)and then a layer of dirt. This will keep your compost rotting but without smell so bears hopefully will stay OUT!!!
